GUATEMALA SANA CHILDREN'S PROJECT
JULY 2020 UPDATE
Along with the rest of the world, Guatemala has been affected by the Covid-19 virus; and, this has hampered our efforts to help the people of Santa Maria de Jesus. Below are updates on each of our programs.
SANA Healthcare Clinic
We had to close all of our activities on March 19 when the Guatemalan government began shutting down and issued shelter-in-place orders. Curfews were implemented and travel between departments was prohibited. On June 15, we were able to reopen our medical clinic with strict protocols including social distancing, protective gear for our employees, required facemasks for everyone including patients, etc. Our dental
services are still suspended.
SANA Preschool and Library
Schools are still closed in Guatemala and will not reopen this year. The Guatemala school year is mid-January through mid-October. We have closed our preschool and children's library until 2021. Once there is a coronavirus vaccine, we will be allowed to reopen. Meanwhile, our teacher meets on a weekly basis with the parents and provides them with modified lesson plans and activities they can do with their children at home.
We provide all supplies to the parents.
SANA Community Programs
While we cannot go out into the community to install solar lamp kits, we are buying food supplies as we have funds to do so. These are being distributed through our healthcare clinic to the patients who are suffering form malnutrition (primarily children and the elderly). With many of these families not having an income for several months, the need for food assistance is even greater.
Thank you for following our programs. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy.
